WWDMAGIC Interview with Fashionably Ashley

1.  How did you start your blog? What was the creative inspiration behind putting yourself out to the world?

After graduating college I was left in an economy that was hurt with high unemployment. I graduated feeling like no one would hire me because I didn’t have enough experience or I was too young. After deciding it was time for a change I moved up to San Francisco in hopes of finding an opportunity. In my first months of moving was when I decided to design my own blog called www.FashionablyAshley.com.  I used it as motivation and designed it around my explorations, style, and personality. It’s a part of me that everyone can enjoy.

2.  From where you began to where you are now as an independent writer, what are three valuable things you’ve learned about your craft?

1. Never give up.

2. Always have fun. Be yourself.

3. Never feel like you don’t have enough to write.

(Micro-blogging is becoming more and more popular. I’d say about 60% of my posts are done through my mobile phone in the form of photos, videos, quotes, ect. I love visuals and feel that most of the time you can get more from one picture than you would from an entire article.)

3.  Aside from writing your blog, what do you do for a living? How has your blog contributed to your career?

I’m a web producer/social media manager for a wireless firm in the financial district of San Francisco. I work with all the major cellular carriers including Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile. Among my specialties includes promotions, user interface enhancements, and brand development. My blog has definitely been a big part of the reason I got my job in the first place. It represented my personality, charisma, and dedication to something I love within my blog and that’s something that sparked their interest. I am currently redesigning our company blog in hopes of making it a #1 wireless information center. If I could make one recommendation for anyone just getting out of college it would be to create a blog and market yourself.
